Features
Known as very affectionate and playful, French bulldogs are quite popular as companion dogs among suburban pet parents. They are short, stout with big heads, squashed faces, and bat ears and can have a muscular build. They can grow 11-12 inches in height and generally weigh from 25-27 lbs. These friendly fun balls can have a variety of colors, including cream, fawn, various shades of brindle including back brindles and tiger brindles. They have thin fur.
Frenchies usually are very active but they don’t bark a lot. However, they are brilliant watchdogs and may guard your homes with life. Therefore they are only moderately friendly with strangers or even kids. They are also very possessive and can get territorial about their owners.
Basics, Health, and training
Frenchie are suitable for regions with cool temperatures because they have less adaptability to cold temperatures and the least adaptability to hot temperatures. They tend to overexert themselves on a hot day. Since they are prone to a medium level of shedding, they should be brushed occasionally and during spring and fall, daily brushes are good to keep their coat healthy. They need moderate exercise daily or otherwise are susceptible to weight gains. They cannot stand loneliness and are always in need of affection and contact. Good training must be given to help them to socialize especially with other dogs which can allow them to cope with their clingy personalities. They can be very stubborn and are also free thinkers. Creativity and fun keep them engaged.
Other characteristics
Being born with short heads and low necks, Frenchie dog can be prone to breathing problems throughout their lives. Because of that, they are also terrible swimmers and should never be let out near pools, or ponds. Any accidents may prove to be fatal. In addition to that, it is not advised to take them as travel companions due to their low adaptability and their nasal structures can cause their severe troubles while on flights. They can also have bad drooling habits and flatulence. The wrinkled skin on their snouts are prone to bacterial infections, therefore, constant attention should be given to that while cleaning and grooming. Pet parents also need to be on the lookout for diseases and ailment conditions like Hip dysplasia, Brachycephalic Syndrome, Allergies, Hemi vertebrae, and Patellar Luxation (Also known as “slipped stifles).
