World’s largest granite quarry – Strangely, the claim to the title of the world’s largest granite quarry is hotly debated. It’s unclear why this is– surely some sort of quarry experts could settle this once and for all?

But then I checked the website: “Granite Leaders” (sounds like they would know a thing or two, eh?) and even they weren’t sure of which granite quarry in the world was in fact the biggest. They sited three different granite quarries as potentially being the largest in the world:
- Mount Airy, North Carolina (claims to be the largest “open faced quarry”)
- Norcross, Georgia
- Barre, Vermont
Frankly, I’m partial to #3 as I am from Vermont and have some pride. The Rock of Ages quarry in Barre, Vermont is pretty impressive. Still, information on quarries is strangely somewhat scarce. Even Wikipedia has nothing to offer on the matter of the world’s largest quarries. What’s up with that?
