A 22-year old woman by the name of Alyse Bradley is making headlines after posting ‘Husband for Sale’ on Craigslist. According to Mrs. Bradley, the ad was posted as a joke after her husband bought Modern Warfare 3 and was unable to pull himself away.
“I am selling my 22 year old husband. He enjoys eating and playing video games all day. Easy to maintain, just feed once every 3-5 hours. You must have internet and space for gaming. Got tired of waiting so free to good home. If acceptable replacement is offered.”
Her husband, Kyle, recently returned from Afghanistan and claims that video games are the way he is able to stay in touch with his military buddies. According to Alyse, when Modern Warfare 3 came out on November 8th Kyle played the game for 48-hours straight. Apparently it was enough to inspire a fake ad on Craigslist, one which got the attention of the news and became part of the Craigslist “Best Of”.

Trouble around marriage has also been in the headlines with the Bountiful, Canada story. Polygamy is on the chopping block today as lawmakers are deciding whether or not the right to multiple-spouses is protected underneath the constitutional right for freedom of religion.
Bountiful is a settlement in Creston Valley, British Columbia that is inhabited by a community of a polygamist Mormon fundamentalist group. Originally the community was founded by a man named Michael Blackmore who moved his family onto the land in 1946. Soon other people who believed in a polygamist lifestyle followed Blackmore and in 1980 it was renamed ‘Bountiful’ after a town in the Book of Mormon.

Bountiful came into public scrutiny in 2005 when allegations of abuse within polygamist families surfaced. Warren Jeffs was at this time considered to be one of the FBI’s 10 most wanted and was caught and charged with being an accomplice to rape. He had forced a 14-year old girl to marry and have sex with her 19-year old first cousin.
The Supreme Court is deciding today (11/23) whether or not to pass a new law banning polygamy in Canada. If it is struck down, there is worry that the country will become a center for polygamist lifestyles drawing in immigrants from the U.S. and Muslim countries.
