Why I slow cook my food :)

As many of you know one of my main online endeavors is my Frugal Living blog. One of the reasons I spend so much time working on this website is because I am a frugal person who is interested in saving cash and living healthily. For this reason I try and do a lot of home cooking.

Home cooking can get a little annoying if not planned and executed properly and I have found some of my favourite meals are the ones that are cooked slowly in larger batches. These include stews, curries, soups, chilis, casseroles and more. The variety of recipes based on the same idea is endless and very suitable for my vegetarianism too….

Last night I cooked a chickpea and potato curry. It basically entailed boiling some chickpeas and adding ginger, garlic, curry powder, salt, pepper and a little flour. Then simmering for an hour or so and adding a pre-boiled potato and half a lemon. Simple and enough to feed a few people for a few meals.

At some point in the future I would like to invest in some kind of slow cooking crock pot (like the Tramontina Dutch Oven) and maybe even a pressure cooker to speed up cooking died foods like beans.

What do you slow cook and what tips can you recommend?
