Blogging, Graphic Design, My Work

As many of you know I am currently growing my design business. It has been going pretty well and things are getting busy. When things calm down a little I will have a new site on the way dedicated to design and such things.

For now I am concentrated on working on other peoples sites from a graphics perspective and this leads me onto talking about a very interesting project that I have it the works.

A great blogging friend of mine, Shaner Higginbottom, contacted me about his personal site redesign.

The thing that you have to know about Shaner’s is that he is totally NUTS!! He loves having a laugh, is very very keen and is a great inspirational friends to have.

So with ShaneHigginbottom.com, Shane wants people to get a feeling of who he is and what his life is all about and he threw a whole bunch of ideas down on the deck…. which brings me to the initial design.

We took our conversation literally and started the Shane Higginbottom Site Redesign LIVE.

Here is the start of our redesign.

shane higginbottom

The thing you have to realize about Shaner’s is he is a social kind of guy. He likes to talk and he likes to have fun. So we both want people to get involved in this. Help make the site better, individual and mould it into a place where Shane feels at home.

So please go on over to ShaneHigginbottom.com and subscribe, comment on this and his post and help us make this something special.

I for one am totally stoked about this, I’m pretty sure Ive sent forest about a gig worth of images and “stuff ” to work with, the scrabble idea was a spur of the monet thing while snapping off pictures at the cottage, who doesnt have scrabble at the cottage, I spelled a bunch of things then took pics of them and sent them to forrest.
Wait till you see what were doing with beer cases, too funny actually !!!

I left a comment over at Shane’s as well. Certainly love the creativity. I don’t have a creative bone in my body when it comes to graphic design. I’m a programmer, what do you expect. lol

I like how it is shaping up. Not sure of the napkin thing though.

    Great work so far.

    Hey Top CD,

What’s interesting is that Shane decided to post things along the way… normally the outside world only sees the end product.

With such an open brief and no definite direction between client and customer (me and shaners :) ) the outcome is likely to be pretty far from this very initial idea.

    Thanks for the comment :)

Dude I just had another idea it may require some programming expertise, though. You know flickr? think its possible to mod the way it displays the images, I havent loaded the flickr bar on the side yet but I have seen it on other blogs, and was curious if there was some way to modify the way it displays the images.

Wow theres some commentary on this, pretty cool.
I think we should go with a beer bottle on the BG, I’ll take some more pictures of beer bottles. Woo hoo beer !!!

    OK thats it for now.

Forest, the site is looking good. Very querky – just like Shaners.

I put a couple of ideas on Shaners blog, whether he’ll like them or not I have no idea – most likely too tame.

I should imagine it is fun for you, something out of the ordinary with no strict brief.

I’m looking forward to watching it develop.

    Good one.
