Rubber ducks stolen
According to the Beacon-News in Aurora, 2,500 ducks were stolen on Friday from the Yorkville Citizens Police Academy. The fundraising event was to support the Citizens Police Academy which has been taking place each year since 1991.
A few of the stolen ducks have been recovered. They were found along a Yorkville roadway and safely returned for the fundraiser. The police department is asking if anyone finds anymore of these rubber ducks that they returned them the Yorkville police department.
The Yorkville police academy has been doing this fundraiser since 1991 and it has proven to be very successful. They academy and many other state agencies need additional funding because of the cash strapped nature the state of Illinois finds itself in today. The State’s budget crisis is really weighing on local police forces and resources, therefore, they have to find creative solutions to fill their budget gaps.
The sale of the rubber ducks were one of their methods. Hopefully, they will be able to substitute something else this year, so the additional funding can continue to roll into the academy or they can find all of the stolen rubber ducks.
