Toronto Mayer Rob Ford’s violation of the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act has obviously been big news recently after a Judge ordered him out of office. He has 12 days and can apply for a stay or file an appeal on the decision but already rumours are flying that his brother may possibly be looking to run and replace him!
The city council will be able to appoint a new mayor if he does have to leave office or, they will be able to call a byeelection. In that case Rob Ford’s brother Doug Ford, a Toronto councillor could potentially run. To make things even more complex Rob Ford may possibly also be able to run!
CBC says that the Toronto Star reported that Doug may run if Rob was barred from a byeelection and was quoted as saying:
“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,” he told CBC News. “I’m not denying it, I’m saying I’m focused on Rob here. Rob’s the mayor and I’m going to support Rob to the bitter end.”
It’s been said that there is no restriction on Rob Ford running for office again beyond the current term however there seems to be a lot of confusion over what exactly the current term is and if that means he can run in the byeelection or would be barred until 2014.

Of course Rob Ford has a lot of support so it’s very possible he’ll be back in the mayors chair sooner rather than later!
