Six in ten dogs in the UK - A recent study suggests that six our of ten dogs in the UK have been out on a diet showing how the obesity epidemic has reached our pets too! Along with these findings it’s said one in four owners also diet along with their dog!
1,641 British dog owners were polled for the study. Pets are said to be being out through weekly weigh ins, restricted food or no food in the evenings and of course more exercise.
The poll was commissioned by dog food producers Butchers Lean & Tasty.
An article in The Scottsman goes into more detail saying
Clare Scallon, from dog food producers Butchers Lean & Tasty, who commissioned the poll, said: “Some of the measures people are taking appear extraordinary.
“Everyone agrees it is unhealthy for a pet dog to be overweight so it is really important to make sure they have a healthy well-balanced diet, and get plenty of exercise.
“So while it’s good to hear that people are paying attention to the food their dog is eating, they very definitely should not be using human diets as a way of helping them to lose weight.
“Human diets are tailored to human needs, and owners need to be very careful their pet is still receiving the right amount of nutrients needed for their dog.
“Simply by cutting out treats, dog owners already will have started a healthier and less calorific feeding pattern.
“You know your dog better than anyone else, but if in doubt talk to your vet or other pet expert for advice on achieving a healthy diet.”
The study found 34 per cent of owners have even introduced a “flexi” day where their dog can have a day off the diet, and is treated for being so good the rest of the time.
Six in ten people practise “portion control” with their pet, reducing the size of their meals so they are not over-eating.
And while 33 per cent of owners are guilty of trying to feed their dog seemingly healthy human food, 24 per cent cut out biscuits and chocolate.
When it comes to exercise, Britons seem to have the right idea as in addition to regular walks, they are letting the dog into the garden more frequently for a run around, and investing in lots of dog toys to encourage active play.
The average dog is said to be overweight by 10lbs, yikes!

Man sues Mcdonalds over napkin – It can be really frustrating when a restaurant doesn’t provide as you feel it should. After all you pay for the food, you expect some level of service and comfort! One man saw his frustrations reach boiling point and is now suing the burger giant for $1.5 million.
They must have really really really peed him off, right? Well reports are saying the crux of the matter is that a McDs restaurant did not give him enough napkins! WTF!!!!!!
Now, we don’t like the chain very much but this is just a little over the top, in our eyes! Let us take a deeper look at the story.
However as always there is always more to a story and the man may just be trying to make a huge point because it’s being said he claims there was a racial issue to the whole thing! No he wasn’t diectly given too few napkins because of his African Americanness but a discussion between him and the Latino manager allegedly included a potential racist remark.
TMZ reported that Webster Lucas said that his local McDs in Pacoima, CA only gave him one napkin on January 29th (2014). He asked for more at the counter and was refused by the manager who said he had already received some.
The lawsuit claims that Lucas retorted to the manager saying ”I should have went to eat at the Jack-in-the-Box because I didn’t come here to argue over napkins. I came here to eat.”
Lucas then claims the manager mumbled a remark containing “you people” which could be assumed to be racist!
An email complaint resulted in an offer of free burgers but Lucas claimed that he was suffering due to ”undue mental anguish” and decided to sue for $1.5 million!
Is this all too much or is Lucas’s point valid?

Minimum wage Warren Buffett – While Warren Buffet is not a politician his involvement in philantrophy, social issues and his extreme wealth mean that people listen when he speaks.
So what does he think personally about an increase in the Minimum wage? I personally thought he would be all for it but MSN Money reported that:
Buffett said increasing the minimum wage is likely to reduce the number of jobs somewhat. He said expanding the earned income tax credit would be a more effective way to reduce income inequality.
So he wants people to have more money on their hands but doesn’t seem to think business should shoulder that burden.
What do you think? Is there wisdom there, is he just being a capitalist or do you agree fully with his point?
I’d love for him to elaborate further on his thoughts and maybe even present a full picture for us to see his wisdom.
Worlds hottest real estate markets 2014 – It’s never easy to be sure where it’s a good bet to buy real estate and that’s even in areas you know very well. However we live in a global world where property can be purchased all over the world and travel is relatively easy. They can become home bases, places to rent out long term or as holiday rentals or just investment properties left to sit while the markets recover.
Of course just finding a cheap home is easy but it’s value could drop if the economy in that area tanks anymore, long term it could become a real dud! Investing in property always comes with risk but that can be lessened so much by doing your research!
So what are the hottest markets in the world, it’s not always about rock bottom prices but about how it is to live with these properties and what a country has to offer. Experts put claim to the best markets being in a number of places from Bristol in the UK, London, certain American States and many places in Europe such as Spain and Greece where things have not exactly been rosy in recent years!
I think a hotspot can be found in most countries but I am no expert. Property here in Budapest feels extremely cheap but you need to know about local laws, taxes and all the costs that come with ownership before making an informed decision (but Budapest has huge potential if the country comes out of it’s troubles).
I’m not expert though but those talked to over at FT.com are and I recommend you mull over this little article anout Property Picks for 2014 a little: http://on.ft.com/1n6gRMg
Where are you looking to buy? At home or abroad?
Buffetts favorite buy-and-hold stocks – In the world of making money through investing one man rules, that man is Warren Buffett, if he says it then it’s near gospel for many! So getting an insight to how he thinks, what he recommends and what he actually does is potentially helpful for anyone wanting to get a good understanding of how to actually make money in a world that can see you lose everything.
Buy-and-hold stocks are the part of your portfolio that should be the easy part. They sit there and year-on-year bring in a little more value, they stay strong over time and maybe even pay out here and there.
If Warren says a buy-and-hold stock is a good bet then maybe it really is! So what are his favorites?
Well he has not come out directly and said his direct faves (to my knowledge) but taking a look at his investment strategy can reveal what may be his favorites.
He has been quoted as saying:
“Once you’re in the business of evaluating businesses, then I think diversification is a terrible mistake. If you really know businesses, then you probably shouldn’t own more than six of them. I can tell you that going into a seventh [business] instead of putting more money into your first one is a terrible mistake. Very few people have gotten rich on their seventh-best idea, but a lot of people have gotten rich on their best idea.”
So basically he is saying that you should stick to your best and hold on, even put more into them! Buy-and-hold is a strategy he believes in.
And his company Berkshire Hathaway holds only 34 publicly-traded U.S. stocks according to StreetAuthority.com. That’s not very many for such a rich company! of those stocks the best performing are: Coca Cola, International Business Machines, Wells Fargo, American Express and Procter and Gamble according to that same StreetAuthority.com article.
So, I think maybe it’s fair to say they are good for investing? It’s definitely worth watching Buffett I think but of course directly copying may not be so good, you don’t have the resources he does so have to make your own way and strategy in the dangerous world of investing.

16 most beautifully dressed couples at the Academy Awards Buzzfeed – Almost no one goes to the Oscars looking bad, even if you don’t like the dress they wear, people try their best to scrub up as best as they can. Men have it so so easy as they just wear a tux and a tie or bow-tie, easy! Women have it so damn hard but the couples do shine and it is a show of serious elegance!
So Buzzfeed put together a list and images of their 16 best dressed couples and of course all the men are in black and white but the women define the elegance of the couple. Don’t get me wrong the men look great but as I stated, they have it easy!
The photos are nice, we would all like to leave the house looking this good as a couple!
Here you can find the images and commentary about each one: http://bzfd.it/1omLICZ
Faces Of Winners And Losers At The Oscars Buzzfeed – Lets face it part of the allure of the Oscars is simply the star gazing, watching the faces in the audience, the reactions, the undertones and all that goes with a win or a loss. The cameras invade the space of every audience member and some of the faces it captures are priceless!
Buzzfeed have captured their best faces of winners and losers and out together a hilarious and sometimes sad look at these!
A few of our faves include Anne Hathaway, Ang Lee all winning! Take a look at the gifs and all the faces here: http://bzfd.it/1eQd2Zx
I didn’t watch yesterdays show but I am sure there were some really great faces to be seen. If you watched it, what was your favorite face and why? Let me guess… It was something related to Jennifer Lawrence?
Jennifer Lawrence’s 19 Best Moments At The Oscars – What on earth is happening with Jennifer Lawrence! The anti-star act has landed her as pretty much the biggest star on the planet and now the Oscars seems to have become the Lawrence’s in the eyes of the press! This lady is gaining so much attention it’s insane and her Oscar night must have been very hard on her!
But people just love her, not just teens who love Hunger Games, other stars, legitimate film critics, average Joe’s! The girl has a lot to live up to but she wears it all pretty well for now.
So Buzzfeed put together their 19 best moments of her at the Oscars. Things like her small comments, people she hugged, her falling over and such things. It’ll have you believeing that nothing else interesting happened at the star studded event!
Does one girl deserve so much attention and is it good for her? Are we witnessing a new level of fame not seen since the days of Marilyn? How will the typically outspoken thespian handle it all!
See the 19 moments here and let us know what you think in the comments below.
We love Lawrence too but thing all the attention may be a little overkill. Let’s let her do her shining on the screen doing what she does best eh?
Chris Kattan in-flight drama – A news story last month told of comedian and former SNL star Chris Kattan being escorted off a plane and and attended to by medics. He was escorted off for eratic beahvior. A few hours later he was then arrested, this time on suspicion of being under the influence.
Now, a comedian on drugs or alcohol or behaving strangely or badly is nothing that surprising however it seems Chris may have a legitimate reason behind the incidents and he has spoken out about them.
Chris is saying that he had an operation on his back and was given prescription medication. That medication caused everything. He told a TMZ photographer:
“I was taking medication for my back, I had surgery, there’s a big scar on my back… I’m fine, that was… whatever, I’m not supposed to talk about it.”
His under the influence charge could result in a $1k fine and up to 6-months behind bars. Of course if his story checks out he’ll probably get a slap on the wrists or something very small.
Now, it’s important not to mess with prescription medication, the boxes and accompanying literature are clearly marked with their side effects, doses and such things and just because a pill looks so innocent we shouldn’t play games with them.
Cornell Robinson robbed pregnant woman in labour – Two men have been arrested and charged for a crime beyond comprehension. They stand accused of robbing a woman who was just about to give birth, in labour!
Criminals often strike the weak but this is seriously twisted. I’m sure giving birth is close to the most vulnerable spot a human can find themselves in! 24 year old Devery Kelley and 44 year old Cornell Robinson are accused of holding up the woman and a man at gunpoint. This is said to have happened in Anapolis, Maryland early on Sunday.
The pair robbed the couple, while the woman was in labour, then fled in a stolen vehicle and threw a hand gun out of the window according to reports. After abandoning the vehicle they carried on on foot, I guess it was then they were caught.
The woman obviously had pressing matters at hand so she was rushed to Anne Arundel Medical Center and thankfully was said to be in good health.
It’s not being reported if the criminals knew the woman was in labour but we can assume it’s pretty obvious!
Of course labour or not, this is a horrific crime.
