Jamie Foxx is no stranger to getting and keeping himself in shape but to play a freed slave in his latest movie Django Unchained celebrity trainer Jack Manson wanted to take his body to a place closer to how it may have been back in those rough days.

Jamie and Manson approached the look of a slave from a perspective of what a hard working man back then may have looked like. All functional and strong but lean. Bench presses were out and push ups and hard back work were in. He played basketball for leaness, used resistance bands and did a lot of work using the weight of his own body. A much more natural and arguably better look was achieved with much less of the show muscles and more of the real hard work showing through.

I think we are going to see a buzz around this kind of look and personally I think it’s a much more practical way to keep yourself fit. It’s useful not just show.
Anything that puts us closer to our more natural state of health and fitness is a good thing as far as I am concerned and looking like a hard working human should is a step forward. We are strange beasts though so the ‘trend’ can swing a different way very quickly!
