Most Widely Consumed Alcoholic Beverages – For thousands of years beer has been the most widely consumed alcoholic beverage around the world. Beer is so popular, in fact, that it is the 3rd most consumed beverage on the planet– after water and tea.

A breakdown of America’s most widely consumed alcoholic beverages goes as follows:

“Wine sales may have crept up in recent years, with vino beating out liquor sales by wide margins lately. But according to the most recent Gallup poll, beer remains America’s preferred alcoholic beverage. Among drinkers, 39% say beer is the alcoholic beverage they drink most often, compared to 35% for wine and 22% for hard liquor. Beer was also the top choice last year, with a slightly smaller edge of 36% for beer vs. 35% for wine.” – TIME Magazine

I think it’s safe to say that the rest of the world follows in a similar trend. Beer is the most widely consumed alcoholic beverage then wine and the liquor. Beer consumption around the world looks like this:

Beer has become a worldwide drink because it’s easy to drink (sometimes) has a near infinite ways to brew and is just refreshing, oh and it contains alcohol! Of course low alcohol and non-alcohol is getting more popular now and wine drinking in USA is on the rise so we may see some changes in these trends in the coming years.

Are you a beer drinker, if so, what beer do you drink and why? I personally like dark beers such as stouts but every now and then you can’t beat a cold European style lagar.
