Most common new year resolutions – So it’s 2013 already and just a week or so ago people went mad for New Year’s resolutions. They are going to turn their life around! But isn’t it just the same old garble again and again?
The fact of the matter is , we’ve all been there– I’m notorious to making New Years resolutions. Whether or not I’ve upheld them… that’s an entirely different story. It’s hard to maintain the momentum of the New Year. In fact, experts believe that 78% of people who fail to uphold their resolutions are focusing on the downside of not achieving their goals right away.
Research has shown that there are approaches to resolutions that can help you be more successful. We’ll get to that at the end of this article. But first– let’s take a look at some of the most popular New Years resolutions out there.

Lose weight.
It’s the end of the holidays and everyone is normally a few pounds heavier as a result. It’s normal for people to take the opportunity of a new year to get back into shape.
Be more organized.
Many people want to feel like they have more control over their lives, or get more done. Being more organized is one such way to accomplish this. It starts with buying a day planner for the new year…
Quit smoking.
Quitting smoking is difficult, but many people are eager to use the new year as a marker to stop this nasty habit. There’s most likely a nice psychological explanation as to why a calendar date helps people kick habits.
Save money.
Who doesn’t want to have a prosperous new year? Making a resolution to save money and be more frugal is what many people are eager to start their year off with.
Take a trip.
The previous year may not have been terribly exciting and so some of us are looking to having a more fulfilling new year with trips and travel.
Drink less alcohol.
You might especially want to jump on board with this popular resolution the day after New Year’s Eve.
Get a new job.
If you’ve been unhappy with your work for some time, looking on the clean sheet of the new year might provide you with the inspiration to get a better job.
Like I mentioned before, keeping up with your resolution is difficult. But there are a few ways that you can be more successful with your inspirations. Firstly, consider starting now. Waiting for a somewhat arbitrary date will not guarantee your success. What will is a positive attitude and an enthusiasm that waits for no date. Secondly, experts have found that people who set smaller goals for themselves are more successful. So, don’t make a huge life changing goal and expect it to happen easily. Instead make a series of small goals that will lead to a big change. Baby steps are more likely to result in your success.
