Lance Armstrong doping lost endorsements Nike Anheuser-Busch – When your world collapses around you and you have been outed as living a lie it is no wonder the people who supported you and gained from the association they had with you suddenly disappear.
Lance Armstrong fell from grace last year in bigger style than any sports star I remember. The higher you are the longer the fall and Armstrong was on the tip of the mountain, one of the most beloved, respected and looked up to sports stars in history. His story of overcoming cancer, then coming back to top form and fighting those who wanted to bring him down with false drug allegations.
Of course those drug allegations he fought for so long actually ended up being true. Everyone he discredited for lying ended up to be telling the truth. The hero was actually the monster. Many asked why, why, why and all those associated with him bolted.
That included all his major endorsements.
Nike said in a statement ”Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him,” and “Nike does not condone the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs in any manner.”
Anheuser-Busch VP Paul Chibe said “We have decided not to renew our relationship with Lance Armstrong when our current contract expires at the end of 2012,”.
Armstrongs web of lies was so strong that both of these companies initially stood by him! Now his name is muddier than mud, he even had to step down as president of his own foundation Live Strong.
Do you think he will ever recover?
