Retirement specific I think there are some things that can really help.

First off this kind of party is about you or the person who is retiring and things should center around that. Photographs from the years at the company are an awesome talking point and maybe wheeling in some of the company characters from the years gone by.

A theme from the era the retiree started work could also be cool or the era you they were born. 45-65 years ago the world was a different place.

For the venue you should try and pick somewhere that has been iconic for the working career. It could be a pub that was often used or even just in the office!

Speeches are important too, everyone wants to make sure they hear some history, some sentimental stuff, antidotes and of course embarrassing stories! The embarrassing stories are very important!

Just make sure the retiree (even if self organised) is the center and the career is celebrated. Retirement parties give people a worthy send off but also help cement the younger workers and make them look forward to what is ahead.

Please share any stories or tips you have.
