How to earn a promotion – Getting a promotion in this job climate isn’t exactly easy but there are always opportunities for the right people and there are of course a lot of steps you can take to put yourself in a better position. Here are some tips.
How to earn a promotion
So where do you start? Of course there are various steps. Number one you need to fully work out what your role is and two you need to work to create a reason for you to be promoted.
Get your job running efficiently
First off you need to get every aspect of your job running as smooth as possible. If you can streamline ever aspect of your job you’ll find yourself with more time and your boss may well start giving you more work but that’s good as you’ll start to get noticed. Also your colleagues will start to notice and be thankful that you are easy to work with, maybe even asking for your help.
Make your job redundant

This is a weird idea that I heard once and thought was a great concept. If you can get your job running so well that you are hardly even needed anymore then your boss has two choices. Get rid of you or promote you! Of course in most cases the promotion is more likely.
Create a role for you to step into
If you find that there is a job in your company that may be needed you could start working steps towards widening an opening hopefully for you to be promoted to. An example could be that you feel a manager to oversee various projects could benefit the company you could start taking on some of that role and suggest it to your boss. If your boss sees improvement they may be more inclined to turn the role into a full time position.
As for a promotion
If you feel you are working as hard as possible and there are no mentions of a promotion in the works it could be time to call a meeting and just ask! Get your evidence for why you need a promotion together and be very well prepared. Of course be fair and if they deny don’t give up, just keep pushing forward until they have to promote you.
