So how did Forbes determine this years list? They said “We reviewed data for hundreds of cities in all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia. Besides the usual financial factors, we looked at weather, availability of doctors, serious crime rates and encouragement for an active retirement. To do this, we considered evaluations by Bicycling Magazine and volunteeringinamerica.org.”

Sounds pretty good. And here is the list:

  1. Tulsa, Oklahoma
  2. Tuscon, Arizona
  3. Savannah, Georgia
  4. San Antonio, Texas
  5. Salt Lake City, Utah
  6. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  7. Phoenix, Arizona
  8. Pensacola, Florida
  9. Lynchburg, Virginia
  10. Las Cruces, New Mexico
  11. Knoxville, Tennessee
  12. Huntsville, Alabama
  13. Fort Myers, Florida
  14. Fargo, North Dakota
  15. Corpus Christi, Texas
  16. Columbia, South Carolina
  17. Columbia, Missouri
  18. Cape Coral, Florida
  19. Boise, Idaho
  20. Bloomington, Indiana
  21. Austin, Texas
  22. Atlanta, Georgia
  23. Asheville, North Carolina
  24. Alexandria, Louisiana
  25. Albuquerque, New Mexico

I’m a long way off retirement and there are a lot of places on this list I would love to go to right now! Texas and New Mexico are popular and maybe the heat is something to do with that! Cold isn’t good for old bones.
