Currencies around the World - We all know the money root all evil quote from the bible “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” from Timothy 6:10 but that’s concerning greed in all forms, I guess! Money itself is pretty cool and I love going to other countries and dealing in their currency. It’s also National Coin Week so to celebrate let’s look at a few well known currencies from around the world.
Currencies around the World
The Japanese Yen is the third most traded currency in the world and although the Japan nuclear crisis has made yen trend point downwards I am sure it will remain a major player for many years to come.

Pound United Kingdom
The pound is a traditionally strong currency although recent years have given it a battering. The pound sterling is also the oldest currency, which is pretty cool! There will be a new William and Kate coin coming out to celebrate the wedding (may be worth holding onto one or two if they circulate!).

The Russian Ruble supposedly got it’s name from the verb meaning “to chop” because originally it was chopped off a silver nuggest, although that origin is disputed.

Most of the EU adopted the single currency which is the biggest monetary reform in Europe since the Roman Empire. I must admit crossing borders and not having to change currency is convenient but I do miss the old ways!

The countries that currently use the Euro are Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Vatican City.
The Mexican Peso Currency was a model for many other currencies including the Straits Dollar, Yen and Yuan. Recent rises in copper prices have contributed to big Peso gains in recent weeks.

Won currency North & South Korea
The won is thousands of years old and it may be getting a boost if a South Korea free trade agreement goes through (not always keen on these likely corrupt deals though!).
Convert KRW Won to USD – 1 South Korean Won = 0.000927 U.S. dollars
How much does a Coke cost in Korea? – 420 Won
