Collapsible wire hampers risk – We have written a lot about product recalls in the past but this is more a suggested warning about a product in wide use after researches found two eye injuries occurring in kids over a year related to these products.
The collapsable laundry hampers that have a wire support are said to be potentially dangerous if the material frays and the wire is exposed according to researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago. It’s being advised that warnings come with the products.
The researches found two injuries (cuts to the eyeball) in young children that occurred within one year.
Whitmor, who makes collapsible hampers, have said they have never received a complaint about this kind of injury but will look into see if their product needs a warning. Some of their other hampers do come with a warning.
Of course the problem extends to any product using similar wire and that comes in contact with kids and that’s where as a parent you have to be sensible about the accessibility to these.
Do you think it should be left more to common sense of parents or should these products carry a warning?
