Building a great playroom

Building a great playroom – Often playrooms are an old room in the house that was cleared out and given a lick of white paint. While that in itself is awesome for a kid to have it’s not the greatest playroom you could make and a bit of time and effort could make your playroom epic.

Building a great playroom

A playroom is a great project because it’s fun for you and then can bring fun for your children for years to come.In this article i’d like to give my thoughts and ideas on the process you could go through to make that room a great place to play.

Playrooms should number one be safe. Safety is something you need to build into all aspects. Before even planning the room and it’s contents I think stripping back and creating a blank canvas is a good place to start.

The room should be empties, cleaned completely, given a light coat of base paint and have any broken skirting boards / fittings repaired. At this stage you may also plan to move plug sockets higher to get them out of reach or buy protective child proof covers.

Now you have you canvas it’s time to have fun. Your kid should be involved all along and asking them to draw up plans with you and go through ideas will get your creative juices working too. They will see that space very different to you.

A soft but hard wearing and natural color carpet could work for flooring but many people also choose wood veneer as it’s easy to clean. You should make your own decision on this.

After that I think a lot of soft items such as bean bags, maybe even hammocks and such things create a safe and fun environment for the growing child. Of course you also need to build in storage space for the toys!

Color and decoration can be changed as the years go on so speak to your child. When I was young I had actual video games characters painted right onto my walls. This could be fun to do with your kids favorite characters but of course it may not be their favorite forever.

Ask other parents about their playrooms and what the kids like / don’t like about them. Go take a look at them, take your time and plan well and your play room will turn out great.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
