Man ticketed $128 for leaving auto running in driveway”

A MI man's citation is going viral after he posted on social media about being ticketed $128 for leaving his vehicle running in his own driveway.

He started his vehicle in his driveway to warm it up and went inside for five minutes.

The ticket was given to him for leaving the keys in the ignition with the motor running - the attendant who handed out the ticket said it was issued because there was no one around.

"We have five to ten cars stolen this way every winter", Roseville Police Chief James Berlin told WXYZ.

"Every person warms up their vehicle", Nick Taylor said.

Taylor posted a photo of the ticket on Facebook.

"I encourage our officers to write this ticket", Berlin said.

Many of these ordinances will allow vehicle owners to use a remote start to heat up the auto while the doors are locked and the keys stay with the driver.

"You see the disparaging comments he made about my officer..."

Vast iceberg poised to break off from Antarctic shelf
Scientists who study the ice-covered continent have been watching the Larsen Ice Shelf for almost a decade. The rift in Larsen C grew suddenly in December 2016, according to a blog on the group's website .

"You're putting the public at risk", Berlin told the news station. "Common sense says you don't leave your auto running unattended", Berlin said.

"If anyone has a second to help report the the chief of police for roseville telling me to drop dead on channel 4".

"That would have been respectful", the young man said.

Despite the dozens of questions raised about the ticket, local law enforcement said they're standing by it.

In Michigan, there is state law against leaving a auto turned on and unattended, but in dozens of cities across the state, like Roseville, there are local ordinances.

Taylor said he didn't mean to call the officer a name, but he doesn't want the ticket.

"I was there for maybe seven or eight minutes before I noticed the ticket", Taylor told CBS Detroit. He meant to warm the auto up enough so that his significant other and her child could comfortably hop in, but a Roseville police office had other thoughts.

Taylor Trupiano was amazed to come out to his motor, which he had running in the early morning to heat it up.
