Maria Sharapova return: Date, tournament, venue, all you need to know”

Maria Sharapova will make her professional comeback at the Porsche Grand Prix on 26 April following her 15-month doping suspension.

She had won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

The 29-year-old Russian, who tested positive for the banned substance meldonium following her Australian Open quarterfinal loss to Serena Williams last January, is eligible to return to the WTA Tour on April 26th, which is the third day of main-draw play in Stuttgart.

Vehicle manufacturer Porsche, which sponsors both Sharapova and the event in Stuttgart, said Tuesday that Sharapova has been given a wild-card entry into the tournament. I cannot wait to see All my admirable admirers and to do again what I love. "Particularly pleasing for me is that it's going to be our audience that gets to watch her comeback live", said Tournament Director Markus Günthardt.

The tournament will star from April 26.

Though she's now unranked, as a former Grand Slam champion Sharapova is permitted ulimited wild cards under WTA rules.

"I'm really happy for Maria that she's back after a long break", he said.

"Her return in the Porsche Arena is a fabulous present for our fantastic spectators and is certain to be one of the sporting and emotional highlights of our anniversary tournament", he added.

The five-time Grand Slam victor could face a challenge from current No. 1-ranked player Angelique Kerber, the tournament's defending champion.

In June, the five-time Grand Slam champion was suspended by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) for two years, but the ban was later reduced to 15 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). She said she had used meldonium for years for medical reasons and was not aware it had been banned for 2016.

Sharapova received a wildcard from the indoor clay court tournament, and she is pleased to return to competitive tennis at a tournament that she has had some success.
