Militants attack checkpoint in Egypt's Sinai, killing 8”

The terrorist group "Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis" earlier claimed responsibility for several attacks that targeted security troops in Sinai and some other governorates.

According to the source, some militants opened fire on the policemen before the explosion.

At least 10 people, mostly police officers, have been killed in northern Sinai after a suicide bomber rammed a lorry into a security check point.

Three floors of the police building were blown out.

Since 2013, when Mohamed Morsi - Egypt's first freely-elected president - was ousted in a military coup, hundreds of Egyptian security personnel have been killed amid an ongoing militant insurgency in Sinai.

In 2014, Sinai's indigenous militants pledged allegiance to Daesh, which is outlawed in many countries, including Russian Federation and the United States.
