Pep Guardiola: "We are the good guys"

Pep Guardiola:

Manchester City put a smile back on Pep Guardiola's face as they swaggered into the FA Cup fourth round with a 5-0 demolition of West Ham on Friday.

Opposite number Slaven Bilic admitted there was nothing positive to take from the encounter after goals from Toure, Silva, Sergio Aguero and John Stones, plus an Havard Nordtveidt own goal.

If City's inconsistent form had started to weigh heavy on manager Guardiola, who was in the tetchiest of moods following their Premier League victory over Burnley on Monday, the Spaniard's spirits would have been lifted by their display in the capital.

"Finally, we were able to keep the ball more than the last games, where it was nearly impossible, so we played much, much better in that sense". We created more chances.

"The first goal, the penalty, was crucial, but we made the mistake of starting to chase them on a big pitch and that is very hard to do", Bilic said. I'd like to involve the fans and make them believe we are good.

The pressure was always going to tell, though, and in the 32nd minute Zabaleta tumbled to the floor under Angelo Ogbonna's challenge. With Guardiola naming his strongest possible starting XI, Bilic inexplicably chose to rest Dimitri Payet and captain Mark Noble, arguably his two most influential players.

"Now we arrive in the Premier League, the FA Cup, Champions League, and something happens with the injuries, we don't have enough (at centreback)", Guardiola said.

"Today we controlled the game more, through our passes", said the City boss. We are the good guys.

Five minutes after the interval it was four, Toure rifling a shot through a crowded area and Aguero diverting the ball into the net, and Stones headed in Nolito's corner six minutes from the end for number five.

At times this season, City have had an alarming habit of switching off at the back and Michail Antonio almost took advantage of another lapse in concentration when he raced clear, only to see Willy Caballero palm his shot to Sofiane Feghouli, who somehow fired wide of the open goal.

Supporters took to Twitter to joke that West Ham would've been better off with Feghouli suspended, after he was sent off against Manchester United only to have his ban overturned, and suggested that having been such a poor signing, his time with the club should be over.
