London transport strikes latest: Tube, Southern and BA bring capital to standstill

London transport strikes latest: Tube, Southern and BA bring capital to standstill”

A planned Tube strike could see nearly all stations in zone one shut from Sunday evening, Transport for London (TfL) has warned.

Although National Rail services will not be affected by the strike, there will be no underground services from key interchange stations such as Victoria, King's Cross, Waterloo, Paddington, Euston, Bank and London Bridge.

The District line is a bit dodgy on a good day, but during the strike, TfL will be operating a limited service on the District, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines - and trains won't be stopping at all stations, either.

Talks over staffing and ticket office closures collapsed today but the Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) announced further talks for tomorrow.

A trio of strikes will hit passengers by air and rail in London next week, with Southern rail, London Underground and British Airways workers all to take industrial action.

The underground strike comes a day before drivers on the Southern network, which operates trains between the capital, Gatwick Airport and the south coast, stage a two-day walkout which will bring services used by hundreds of thousands of passengers to a standstill.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash accused authorities of lacking "serious plans to tackle the staffing and safety crisis caused by the axing of almost 900 safety-critical station jobs".

"Instead of resolving the issues, Tube bosses have chosen instead to ramp up the rhetoric with threats to mobilise a strike-breaking army of 'ambassadors" with severe consequences for the current safety regime across the Tube network. We agree that we need more staff in our stations and have already started to recruit 150 extra staff.

There would also be no services on the Victoria or Waterloo and City lines, meaning that other services, buses and roads are likely to be much more busier than usual.

The majority of DLR services are expected to operate normally, but they will be really busy.

"The ball remains in London Underground's court and while RMT remains available for talks it is down to the company to come back into the process with serious proposals".

LU has warned travellers to expect major disruption to services.
