3 dead after shots fired at Fort-Lauderdale-Hollywood Int'l Airport”

Eight people were wounded and five people were killed.

A New Zealand pilot who landed at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport just before the shooting says security is still the "biggest problem".

Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief told CNN authorities that a lone shooter was responsible for the attack and had been taken into custody. "Lauderdale Airport", Fleischer tweets. "Anyone who observes any suspicious activity should report it to airport personnel or police", Guglielmi said in an email.

Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida identified the gunman as Esteban Santiago and said that he was carrying a military ID, but that it was unclear whether it was his. Santiago is a 26 year old from New Jersey, according to NBC News. Law enforcement officials didn't fire shots at the scene and the suspect remains "unharmed".

"We can confirm that we have no record of such a passenger by that name", an Air Canada tweet said.

Witnesses posted video and photos of the shooting on social media.

The terminal was evacuated after the shooting, Delta said, adding that "preliminary reports indicate that all Delta employees are safe and accounted for during what remains an ongoing active shooter incident". LaMarca says Santiago pulled out the gun in the bathroom after claiming his bag.

According to reports, Santiago - a USA army national guard - is from New Jersey but most recently lived in Naples, Florida.

Megyn Kelly 'leaving Fox News'
Kelly announced the move in a short statement posted on her social media accounts . NBC has not replied to comment about the financial details of the contract.

An hour after the first shooting, shots were fired in a different terminal of the airport and the suspect remained at large, The Miami Herald reported.

A spokesperson for Air Transat said the airliner operations were not affected by the shooting. "People were trying to run", Lea told MSNBC. Pictures from the scene showed hundreds of people standing on the tarmac early as ambulances drove by and numerous law enforcement officers rushed to the airport.

Authorities gave no details on a possible motive for the shooting inside Terminal 2, which serves Delta Air Lines and Air Canada.

President-elect Donald Trump said he was monitoring the situation and that he had spoken with Mr Scott.

Authorities had investigated unconfirmed reports of additional shots fired, but Israel said during a press conference Friday that there had been no confirmation of any gunshots elsewhere in the airport.

Ari Fleischer, the former White House press secretary during the administration of George W. Bush, was also at the airport during the shooting.

Flights to the airport have been diverted to other airports or ordered not to depart.
