State Department Designates Osama bin Laden's Son a 'Global Terrorist'

State Department Designates Osama bin Laden's Son a 'Global Terrorist'”

Hamza Bin Laden is the son of deceased al-Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden.

Al-Qaeda senior leader Ayman al-Zawahiri announced on August 14, 2015, that Hamza was an official member of the terror group.

On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Osama bin Laden's death, experts have noted Hamza's increasing prominence among extremists in comparison to that of Egyptian leader al-Zawahiri.

The U.S. Treasury sanctions list estimates Hamza was born in 1989 in Jeddah.

Osama bin Laden's son Hamza - a rising figure in al Qaeda who has called for attacks against America - was added to the USA terrorist blacklist on Thursday.

Texas judge issues injunction barring anti-discrimination provisions of ACA
O'Connor's ruling was celebrated by religious freedom advocates, such as the Family Research Council's Travis Weber. O'Connor said the plaintiffs had sufficient reason to fear the law would result in religious discrimination .

Site Intelligence's co-founder Rita Katz has said Hamza bin Laden was being projected "as a future leader: someone loved and inspirational, without a negative reputation or participation in infighting". In an audio message previous year, he threatened revenge against the US and warned Americans they would be targeted at home and overseas.

In 2016, bin Laden also urged tribes in Saudi Arabia to unite with al-Qaida's Yemen affiliate to attack Saudi forces, the statement said. The designation of a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" imposes sanctions on the individual via Executive Order 13224, a tool the State Department called "powerful". The terrorists are denied access to USA financial systems including banks and affiliated financial services. "Moreover, designations can assist or complement the law enforcement actions of other USA agencies and other governments", the bureaucracy said.

The U.S. State Department added a familiar last name to its terrorist blacklist on Thursday. Now leading al-Qaida is Ayman al-Zawahiri, who was allegedly involved in the 1998 US embassy bombings in Tanzania and Kenya.

Bin Laden's father Osama was killed by Navy SEALs in Pakistan in 2011 in retaliation for the 9/11 attacks in 2001.

Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. special forces who raided his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in May 2011. An image from 2001 appears to show Hamza bin Laden (center) as a young boy reading a poem alongside Taliban members in Afghanistan.
