Charleston Church Killer Dylann Roof Shows No Remorse During Opening Statements

Charleston Church Killer Dylann Roof Shows No Remorse During Opening Statements”

"I do not regret what I did", the journal entry said, according to Williams.

"I know that what I did will have reprecussions [sic] on my whole family, and for this I am truly sorry", he wrote.

White supremacist Dylann Roof, facing the death penalty for the hate-fueled killings of nine black churchgoers in SC, did not mention race, the crime or whether he wants to live as he spoke on Wednesday to jurors at his federal trial.

However, it wasn't Roof's words in the courtroom but rather what he wrote in a jailhouse journal that was revealed weeks after his arrest.

After pleading not guilty - and having his trial delayed - the 22-year-old white supremacist was thankfully found guilty of all charges in the SC massacre about a month ago.

State authorities were the first to charge Roof, 22, in the June 17, 2015, racially motivated attack that killed nine black worshippers at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. "Other than the fact that I trust people that I should not and the fact that I am probably better at constantly embarrassing myself than anyone who has ever existed, there is nothing wrong with me psychologically".

Chris Singleton's tribute to his mother, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, was shown in the second day of testimony in the sentencing phase of Roof's trial.

Pinckney testified that she heard Roof say he was not insane and had to do this. He also said his attorneys, now classified as standby counsel, "forced" him to undergo two competency examinations, the most recent of which took place over New Year's weekend. He killed them because of the color of their skin.

Cotton Bowl: Wisconsin Badgers square up against undefeated Western Michigan Broncos
Granted, WMU needs to play at its top possible level, but I believe that the Broncos have a legitimate shot at beating Wisconsin . Wisconsin failed to cover in the match as a -2.5-point favorite, while 69 combined points moved the game OVER for totals bettors.

Although many people in the courtroom had already heard Roof's flat, Southern-inflected monotone during the guilt phase, when prosecutors played a video recording of his post-arrest confession to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, his statement on Wednesday was his first to the jury. She broke down upon recalling that the last time she spoke on the phone to her sister was the day Middleton-Doctor was killed. I have shed a tear of self-pity for myself.

"So, in that respect, my self-representation accomplishes nothing, so you can say, what's the point?"

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan Williams focused his remarks on those who died in the shooting, and on what he called Roof's lack of regret.

Pinckney was the first witness called to testify during the sentencing phase of Roof's trial.

Lauren Knapp of the Charleston County Sheriff's Office says Roof was put on suicide watch after she intercepted a letter he'd written to his mother.

He said the delay would last until "further order of this court".

Roof has asked no questions of survivors and friends of the shooting victims after they recounted their loved ones' legacies and the painful moments when they learned of their deaths. She was on the stand for more than two hours. Another victim's daughter broke down as she described her mother's hugs.

Roof's motion cited several well-known capital trials in an attempt to sway the court that the amount of victim impact testimony is excessive.
