Amazon Patents Flying Warehouse, a Blimp to Store, Quickly Deliver Goods

Amazon Patents Flying Warehouse, a Blimp to Store, Quickly Deliver Goods”

If the flying Amazon base were to one day be realized, it would mean the company might no longer have to rely on fixed locations for its delivery centers. It's an Amazon blimp stuffed with packages, soaring through the skies, sending off drones to make deliveries. Yes, it sounds like something out of a science-fiction movie.

Leveraging aerial deployment, drones can serve a wider delivery range and owing to the mobile nature of the warehouses, it would allow Amazon greater flexibility in managing inventory when there is change in the demand.

"When the UAV departs the AFC, it may descend from the high altitude of the AFC using little or no power other than to guide the UAV towards its delivery destination and/or to stabilise the UAV as it descends", the patent filing explains. It could even be utilized to transport workers and drones, making sure the latter conserve power by utilizing energy reserves to only make deliveries. According to CNBC, Amazon was awarded the patent on the fulfillment center in April. Then, the drone will act its path and float or glide most of the way and after some time starts to navigate itself on its propellers and get the directions automatically.

For instance, people might be able to spot Amazon's flying wonders near a sporting event in the future, handily supplying merchandise or food to fans below.

Amazon's drones have already been tested while being launched from a traditional, ground-based delivery truck. The drones would then return to the floating warehouse via larger shuttles.

Petersburg Bowl: Miami leads Mississippi State
The Bulldogs, who wrap up the season at 6-7 following the win, won the game thanks in large part to big special teams plays. Of crucial note, K Nick Dowd's extra-point was blocked after that score. "I was very concerned we'd get it blocked".

One of the company's aircraft delivered an Amazon Fire TV and some popcorn to a user in Cambridgeshire, dropping off the package directly to their door. It will be also interesting to know how Amazon intends to land their drones.

The idea is that when an Amazon Prime Air order was placed, a computer system would check if the item was aboard an AFC in the client's general vicinity.

The company files for, and receives, many patents, many of which don't pan out into real products.

As with all patents, there's no guarantee the AFCs will ever make it beyond the filing stage.

The filing also indicates that all drones and shuttles could be hooked together in a meshed network, communicating at all times regarding the weather, wind speed, routing, and others such.
